Touring Production Company Positions
The job that I’m seeking upon graduating from university centers on event management/production management. I’m not entirely sure of what position I would ultimately want, however I understand in this industry it’s very much about starting at the bottom and working your way up. Whether I join a company and work from its headquarters in a particular city or join a touring company and travel, I’m...
DIGC202 Fourth Tumblr Post
This week in DIGC202 examines the role of labour in global networks. Wilson discusses the global division of labour, immaterial labour vs. material labour, precarity, white collar workers and free labour. These are issues that until now, I’d never really given much thought to. I had previously visited all these concepts in an academic sense; however I’d never really applied them to my own life...
DIGC202 Third Tumblr Post
The focus on globalisation and the new economy in Digc202 in week 4 provides an interesting starting point for further investigation into the archaeology of this phenomenon and its potential (and current) effects. Within class, Wilson discussed the global economy in terms of trade (of goods, services, currencies and information), labour and integration. Castell’s view of the instrumental...
A note on Pakistan
So on a follow up note from the global communications networks exercise, apparently purchasing equestrian chaps and saddlery manufactured and delivered from Pakistan is slightly more troublesome than first anticipated. The manufacturer in Sialkot, Pakistan, has not replied to my email enquiry regarding estimated delivery times and quantities. I could be wrong, but maybe this business is a little...

I couldn’t find a picture on Google maps of the exact street, so I searched Wikipedia for info about the town. It said that Sialkot, Pakistan has the first private sector dry port in Pakistan and is a major thoroughfare for neighbouring cities. This may help in transportation and logistics.

A very western site that acts as a forum directing people to reputable overseas manufacturers.
DIGC202- Second Tumblr post
Perhaps the word that nicely sums up this week in Digc202 is Progressivism. Not a bad way of looking at things really. Maybe not the most helpful either. In recognising and understanding this term, it becomes difficult to find works on new media that don’t have a teleological foundation, supported by notions of progress. I’m not quite sure how to get around this concept when it’s obvious that...
Digc202- Week One Blog Post
Perhaps what I hadn’t considered in studying globalisation and new media over the past few years; was the complex history of globalisation. Histories don’t have a definitive starting point, yet in my new media studies to date, I’d never questioned published works that began a timeline with the Gutenberg printing press or Tim Berners-Lee. Understandably, authors make necessary omissions for the...
